One of the key platform points of Rachel Notley’s NDP campaign and sudden rise to power in 2015 was an increase in the provincial minimum wage from $10.20/hour (the lowest rate in the country) to $15.00/hr (the highest of any jurisdiction in Canada). Immediately after being elected, the government increased the wage to $11.20. As of October 1, 2016, the second phase of increases kicks in to $12.20 followed by $1.40 increases in the fall of 2017 and 2018.

We are accountants, not economists, so we won’t debate the efficacy of minimum wages or what level they should be set at. Nevertheless, many of our clients have employees and will be affected by these new regulations. Along with changing personal tax brackets and corporate rates and expansion of the CPP, it’s getting to be nearly impossible to stay on top of all of your requirements and still focus on doing your job.

Knowing those details and how they will affect you are OUR jobs. Our team of accountants will help you stay compliant so you can get out there and make money and keep growing your business.
